Needles turn yellow and often wilt in hot weather. The edges of some needles may be notched. The plant grows poorly; branches or the entire plant turn yellow, then brown, before dying. To check for this pest, inspect the foliage with a flashlight after dark. Black weevils, 3/8 inch long, with elephant-like snouts are feeding on the needle edges
Inspect the center of the plant every year for insects and recently notched needles. Apply an insecticide labeled for this pest, following label directions.
