Dogs can devastate a garden, especially when allowed to play or romp freely in a small yard. They cause damage by trampling or lying on plants, running along fence lines, digging up the soil, and depositing droppings and urine around the yard.
To discourage dogs from digging, bedding, and urinating on plants use Ortho® Dog & Cat B Gon® Dog & Cat Repellent according to label instructions. Additional options include: Put up a fence. The sturdiness of the fence will depend on the size, strength, and determination of your pet. A flimsy fence made of wire strung between stakes may be adequate for a small, well-behaved animal. Larger, more rambunctious dogs require sturdier fences. Or consider one of the newer electronic “fences.” Eventually the animal will adjust to the new boundaries and will be less likely to damage planted areas when the fence is removed. Proper discipline and providing an alternate location in which the animal can play will reduce damage to garden plants.
