A weed with extremely hairy, somewhat fleshy leaves grows in sunny areas of the lawn. The 1/2-inch-long leaves are attached directly to the stems without a leafstalk. Starlike white flowers bloom from April to October. Mouse-ear chickweed is a troublesome perennial weed found throughout the U.S. It grows in full sunlight on infertile and heavily watered soil and invades lawns thinned out due to insects, disease, or mechanical damage. With a low, prostrate growing habit, it forms a dense mat that crowds out grass.

Treat the lawn when the plant is growing actively in the early spring or late fall. Repeated applications may be needed.
