Shoot tips wilt. Some canes die. 2 rows of small holes, 1 inch apart, may encircle the cane below the wilted tips. Cigar-shaped swellings 1/4 to 3 inches long may occur on the cane. The cane breaks off easily at the swelling. Some leaves may be chewed and ragged.
Cut off infested canes 6 inches below the swelling or wilted tip and destroy them.
