Solution
Take the Sting Out of Yellowjackets, Hornets and Wasps
Many summer gettogethers are spoiled by uninvited guests like yellowjackets, hornets, and wasps. These social insects love the sticky stuff on softdrink cans, dessert plates, and fruit. In the wild, they kill flies, caterpillars, and other problem bugs. In your yard, they're pain on wings. Don't let these pests ruin your summer fun. Control them with some easy tips.
Prevention and Maintenance
Cover Up
These critters can make taking out the garbage an act of courage. That's why you want to make sure the garbagecan lids are on tight. If you're eating outside, cover up your food as much as possible, and pick up as soon as you're done.
Find a Nest, Kill a Pest
There's a good chance there's a nest near your house if yellowjackets and hornets crash your outdoor party. If you find one, spray it with Ortho® Hornet & Wasp Killer at night. Repeat if necessary. If there's a nest in the home, call a professional.
Yellowjackets, Hornets and Wasps Defined
Some varieties of yellowjackets, hornets, and wasps live in colonies of several hundred to several thousand. Even though they like your picnic scraps, what they really want are other insects, which they feed to their young. Paper wasps build the impressive lantern-like nests you see in trees, while yellowjackets and hornets prefer holes in the ground. Solitary wasps build tunnels out of mud, or little nests under twigs or rocks. Most of these insects die off in the fall.
