Using a push-type spreader is simply the safest, fastest, and most accurate way to apply fertilizer products to your lawn. Spreaders apply fertilizer in a very even pattern to prevent missing areas, and can prevent lawn damage from accidentally over-fertilizing. They also help reduce skin exposure to lawn products.

If you have never used a spreader before, don't be intimidated. Set your Scotts® spreader dial to the number listed on the back of the specific Scotts fertilizer product bag. You may set the spreader number lower if you need a few practice rows over the lawn and are worried about applying too much (a lower number will apply less product). For drop spreaders, align the arrow on the hopper to the last wheel mark. For broadcast rotary spreaders, keep an eye out for how far the product is flung out on either side (usually 2.5 feet on each side for Scotts® rotary spreaders) so you know where to make your next pass.
