Unless you live in the Southwest, scorpions are more bark than bite. Only a few species have venom that is fatally poisonous. Otherwise, a scorpion sting is no more serious than one from a bee. Be careful when trapping or touching these shy pests, since bothering them will make them much more likely to sting.
Ordinarily, you'll find scorpions living outside in your garden under rocks, boards or protective debris. They may wander into your home through a loose screen or open door to hide from hot weather. They'll hang out in your attic or crawl spaces until the temperature is over 100 degrees, and then you might find them in your kitchen or bathroom.
To keep them out of your home, repair loose window and door screens. Seal up any cracks or small openings you may have in your foundation or siding.
Use gloves and protective clothing for cleaning infested areas. Keep loose rocks, boards and other clutter under control, so they have no place to hide.
