Watch for this lawn to disease to show up when it's hot, humid, and sunny during drought conditions. Fusarium blight has a recognizable "frog-eye" pattern. If conditions are right, the diseased areas will grow together, and large areas of the lawn may be destroyed. You can defend your lawn against this disease with good lawn practices.
Fusarium blight likes poorly maintained lawns. It grows where there is excessive thatch, too much fertilizer, and water stress. If these conditions are corrected or avoided, disease damage may be decreased. You can correct the situation by dethatching your lawn, feeding your lawn with a slow-release lawn food such as Scotts® Turf Builder®, and watering deeply but infrequently - about an inch a week.
Fusarium blight is most injurious to Kentucky bluegrass, but also affects creeping red fescue, bentgrass, centipede, and bermudagrass. If you have a Kentucky bluegrass lawn, you can overseed with a mixture containing perennial ryegrass. If your lawn is seriously damaged by fusarium blight, consider reseeding with resistant grasses adapted to your climate.
