Hooray, it's on its way and should arrive shortly.
Downy Brome is an annual grassy weed that was introduced in this country in the 1860's from Europe by mistake. It grows early in the spring, crowding out native or desirable plants. It soon sprouts seeds and dies out, leaving dead stems that are fuel for summer fires. Farmers call it cheatgrass, since it reduces their wheat harvest substantially. If you have sandy soil, this plant could pay you a visit.
Downy Brome has shallow roots, so you can pull it out by hand.
For larger areas, apply Roundup® Weed & Grass Killer while the weed is actively growing. You'll have better luck in the spring, before your other plants are out. Roundup will kill your other plants, so you may have to replant.
