The Japanese Beetle is a metallic-green beetle that's about half an inch long with bronze wing covers. It eats the leaves and fruit of hundreds of different plants, preferring those with tender leaves, such as linden trees.
In early summer, you walk through your yard and look up to see the leaves of your trees are half-eaten leaves. Shake a few branches, and suddenly a swarm of beetles flies away. You've just met Japanese beetles, up close and personal. The best way to hit Japanese Beetles is to get them before they become beetles. Their grubs, or larvae, lie in the soil and emerge as leaf-eaters. One treatment with Scotts® Grub-Ex®1 between June and July will kill the grubs.
Japanese Beetles travel for their meals. To keep them from feasting on your landscaping, continue to apply Ortho® Bug B Gon® Systemic Insect Killer or Ortho® Bug-B-Gon MAX® Garden Insect Killer Dust throughout the summer, as needed, according to label directions.
