    Mower

    Scalp and Rake

    You have to prepare your dormant grass for overseeding. This means scalping your lawn. Cut it as low as possible 2 or 3 times. In between mowing, rake away the dead grass. This will loosen and expose the surface soil and keep the dormant grass from shading the seedlings. You can compost the dead grass to use in your garden later.


    Spreader

    Spreading Your Scotts® EZ Seed® Ultimate Winter Lawn Mix

    Set your spreader to its highest setting (if you have a Scotts® Accugreen® Drop Spreader, use setting 18). Since Scotts® EZ Seed® Ultimate Winter Lawn Mix covers 420 square feet, mark off your lawn into 420-foot sections, or about the size of three parking spaces. Spread one bag of EZ Seed® Ultimate Winter Lawn Mix evenly in each section.

    Your Key to Success: Watering

    Give your EZ Seed® a good start by watering the right way. That means about 15 minutes to saturate the EZ Seed® and the soil under it. After that, water 3-4 times daily for about 5-10 minutes to maintain the right amount of moisture. If you over-water, you may create puddles that can wash away the seed. You can change to a regular watering schedule after the seedlings mature in about 2 weeks.

    Maintaining Your New Winter Lawn

    Start to mow your new winter lawn when the grass reaches normal mowing height. The Starter® Fertilizer in EZ Seed® Ultimate Winter Lawn Mix gives seedlings the jumpstart they need and last for up to 6 weeks. After that, keep your winter lawn looking its best by feeding it with Scotts® Turf Builder® Lawn Fertilizer with 2% Iron. Keep feeding it every 6-8 weeks for the rest of the season.
