The best way to eliminate tough weeds is to kill the vines with specialized weed killers such as Roundup® Poison Ivy Plus Tough Brush Killer products. These products have two specific ingredients in the formula: Triclopyr that fights through the waxy surface of poison ivy, oak, sumac, kudzu and other hard-to-kill weeds, and glyphosate that helps kill to the roots.
Spray Roundup® Poison Ivy Plus Tough Brush Killer on the leaves of actively growing poison ivy and tough brush weeds until thoroughly wet. The formula is absorbed through the actively growing leaves. Although injury is not likely if the spray contacts the bark of a nearby mature tree, care should be taken where possible to minimize contact with desirable plants and trees.
To kill vines, cut them to 3-4 feet and saturate the leaves with Roundup® Poison Ivy Plus Tough Brush Killer.
Tree stumps can contribute to unruly growth. To get rid of unwanted stumps, first cut the living stump close to the ground. Next, drill 4-5 holes into the freshly cut stump and immediately poor undiluted Roundup® Poison Ivy Plus Tough Brush Killer Concentrate into the holes. Follow label directions for proper handling and application.
Special Caution: Be careful when applying Roundup® Poison Ivy Plus Tough Brush Killer. Do not spray surrounding and desirable lawn grasses, groundcovers or nearby plants as they may also be killed. If desirable plants are accidentally sprayed, wash them immediately with water. Do not use Roundup® Poison Ivy Plus Tough Brush Killer around edible food or crops. Re-enter the treated area only after the product has completely dried.
It's best to apply during warm, sunny weather (above 60°F). Spray when the air is calm to prevent product from drifting to desirable plants. For best results, spray monthly throughout the growing season or as needed when new plants appear. Rain or watering 30 minutes or more after application will not wash away effectiveness.
Use where tough weeds are invading your property, such as unmanicured areas in the perimeter, along fence lines, and around trees.
